Client Machine Requirements¶
This document defines the recommended configuration for X4D client access, covering Windows client workstations and iOS mobile devices. Client performance directly affects search speed, navigation responsiveness, model interaction, and document loading performance.
Windows Client¶
Supported Operating Systems¶
- Windows 10 Home - all supported releases
- Windows 10 Pro - all supported releases
- Windows 11 Home - all supported releases
- Windows 11 Pro - all supported releases
Supported Navisworks Versions¶
- X4D supports Autodesk Navisworks versions 2019 through 2024
- Only Navisworks Simulate and Navisworks Manage editions are supported
- Navisworks Freedom is not supported with X4D
NOTE: Navisworks must be installed locally on the client machine prior to X4D installation.
CPU¶

Memory¶
All X4D client machines must have at least 16 GB RAM.

Storage¶
- NVMe SSD strongly recommended
- Minimum 500 GB free space

Graphics Card Requirements¶
A dedicated graphics card is recommended for all X4D client machines working with 3D models. NVIDIA graphics cards are strongly recommended; integrated graphics are not recommended for production use.

Typical Client Profiles¶
- Minimum supported client: 6 to 8 core CPU, 16 GB RAM, NVMe SSD recommended, Navisworks Simulate or Manage installed if using 3D models
- Engineering workstation: 8 to 12 core CPU, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, NVIDIA workstation GPU recommended
- Heavy Navisworks user: 12 or more core CPU, 64 GB RAM, high-performance NVMe SSD, NVIDIA RTX A2000 class or higher
Mobile Access (iOS)¶
Overview¶
This section defines iOS compatibility requirements for X4D Mobile Access. It covers tested Apple devices, connectivity expectations for site and field usage, security requirements, and the applications required for viewing X4D exported content.
Supported Apple Devices¶
- iPad 2 and newer models
- iPhone 5 and newer models
For the best experience, newer iPad and iPhone models are recommended, especially when working with large drawings, document sets, 3D PDFs, and AR models.
Network Requirements¶

Devices should be able to switch between WiFi and cellular connectivity depending on operational requirements.
Security Requirements¶
- Authentication (Mobile Access Link, user name, and password) is required for X4D Mobile Access
- Users must complete authentication before accessing project data
Required Applications¶

The installed viewer applications should support zoom, rotation, and reliable rendering to enable effective review of X4D exported 3D PDFs and AR models.
